Suspected armed bandits have launched an attack on Kurfa community in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State, abducting an unspecified number of residents during the incident.

The Divisional Police Officer in Bukkuyum reported that the attack took place on April 2, 2026, at about 1:28 p.m., when a large number of heavily armed gunmen invaded the community.

Witness accounts indicate that the assailants, equipped with sophisticated weapons, operated for an extended period, shooting intermittently and causing panic among residents, many of whom fled to safety. While several individuals were taken away by the attackers to an undisclosed location, others managed to escape into nearby areas.

Confirming the development on Saturday, the spokesperson of the Zamfara State Police Command, DSP Yazid Abubakar, disclosed that a joint security response team comprising police, military personnel, and other agencies acted promptly after receiving a distress call and deployed to the scene.

“The suspects who fled before the arrival of security personnel are being hotly pursued by tactical teams. Some residents who escaped into surrounding areas have been intercepted and rushed to hospital for treatment,” he said.

“Efforts are ongoing to ascertain the exact number of persons abducted. Rescue operations are still in progress. The command has intensified operations in the area and is working closely with relevant stakeholders to track down the perpetrators,” DSP Abubakar added.

“The Zamfara State Police Command assures the public of its unwavering commitment to restoring peace and security in the state. Further developments will be communicated as they unfold.”
