Former Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, has expressed concern over the country’s worsening security situation, alleging that heavily armed bandits now move freely on highways and exchange greetings with security personnel stationed along the roads.

Dalung raised the alarm after sharing a video on his Facebook page showing armed men suspected to be bandits riding motorcycles in large numbers on a highway, while security officers appeared unable to stop their movement.

The former minister described the development as disturbing, saying it reflects how deeply criminal activities have become entrenched in the country.

His reaction comes amid increasing insecurity across Nigeria, including the recent abduction of 39 schoolchildren and seven teachers from three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on May 15, during which a teacher was killed.

Dalung wrote: “This country is in a very dire situation. Seeing that bandits now move openly on highways in large numbers on motorcycles, heavily armed, while security personnel stationed along the same roads can do little more than exchange greetings with one another is heartbreaking and unbelievable! And no, I am not referring to the security operatives who are doing their best to confront these bandits, but about is the apparent normalization and entrenchment of banditry in Nigeria. The question now is: what is left for the ordinary citizen?“
