A violent early morning attack in the Sabuwar Unguwa community, Katsina State, left a vigilante member dead and a family abducted.
The suspected bandits struck at around 3:00 a.m., targeting the home of Malam Anas and taking him, his wife, and their daughter. Tragically, 25-year-old Abdullahi Muhammad, a local vigilante, was shot dead when he tried to intervene.
Residents told reporters that they had noticed suspicious individuals lurking in the area beforehand. “We saw two strange men around before the attack,” said one neighbor, pleading for stronger security in the community.
Police spokesperson DSP Abubakar Sadiq confirmed the attack occurred at Anas Ahmadu’s residence behind Gidan Rodi Steel Rolling Company. “The assailants fatally shot Abdullahi Muhammad before fleeing,” he said.
Swift response from law enforcement followed. The Divisional Police Officer led a team to the scene, restored calm, and launched investigations. Commissioner of Police Bello Shehu, accompanied by senior officials, personally assessed the site. Additional officers and resources have been deployed in hopes of rescuing the abducted family and capturing those responsible.
Sadiq urged residents to report any suspicious activity: “Please alert the nearest police station or use our emergency lines. All information will be treated confidentially.”
