Bandits kill 20, abduct others during Maulud celebration in Katsina

Armed bandits struck a community in Musawa Local Government Area of Katsina State late on Sunday, killing at least 20 people and abducting several others during a Maulud celebration.

The attackers descended on the residents at approximately 11:05 p.m.

A vigilante member, who witnessed the horrifying assault, recounted, “The bandits surrounded the venue of the Maulud celebration and opened fire on the participants, causing injuries to many and abducting several individuals, whose whereabouts are currently unknown.”

“By the time the security forces could respond to the distress call, the assailants had vanished into their hideouts. Following the attack, we discovered 20 lifeless bodies within the village.”

The police spokesperson in Katsina, ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, confirmed the incident, stating, “There was an attack in Musawa LGA at around 11 pm while people were participating in a Maulud procession. Bandits attacked, shot, and injured 18 people.”

“They were swiftly evacuated to the hospital for medical treatment. Unfortunately, two of them later succumbed to their injuries. We are currently conducting a thorough investigation to potentially arrest and bring to justice those responsible for these heinous acts.”
