No fewer than 23 houses have been burnt down by bandits suspected to be armed herders, in a renewed attack on Sunday, in the Egwuma community of the Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State.

According to the PUNCH, the Chairman of the Local Government, Philip Ebenyakwu, disclosed this on Monday, adding that three people with gunshot wounds were receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

He said, “Armed herders have consistently invaded the Agatu West and the herdsmen come from Kogi State.

The area shares a boundary with Kogi State and is always vulnerable to attacks. Yesterday (Sunday), the armed herders attacked a community in the area, particularly Egwuma, where they burnt 23 houses and took away three motorcycles.

“Though there was no casualty, three villagers with gunshot wounds are currently receiving treatment in the hospital.”

The council boss commended security operatives deployed to the local government, adding that naval officers, on Saturday, confiscated a machine boat from invaders who usually attacked the area from Nasarawa State.
