Bandits abduct poly lecturer in Katsina

The Katsina State Police Command, on Thursday, said it was making efforts to rescue a lecturer with the Hassan Usman Polytechnic Katsina, Bello Birchi, who was abducted on Wednesday night by suspected bandits.

Birchi was reportedly kidnapped from his residence in Birchi, Kurfi Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

He is a lecturer at the Department of Technical Education of the institution.

Sources revealed that the abductors, who were five in number, invaded Birchi’s residence on Wednesday night on motorcycles and whisked him away.

The Katsina State Chairman of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Dr Sabi’u Abdullahi Ya’u, said the union had already reported the incident to security operatives.

Yau said

“Bello Abdullahi Birchi was kidnapped at his residence in Birchi, Kurfi local government yesterday (Wednesday) night. The gunmen went to the village on motorcycles.

“Immediately after the incident was reported to me, I called an emergency meeting with my EXCO and we quickly met the management of the institution and reported the sad development to security agencies.

“The kidnappers dropped a phone number but we were advised by security personnel not to call the number immediately. They said we should allow them to carry out investigation. So, we have not called the number”.

Spokesman for katsina police command SP Gambo Isah confirmed the development.

He said

“We are making efforts at seeing that the man is rescued very soon.”
