Bandits abduct over 24 varsity students in Zamfara

A group of bandits carried out the of abduction of several students at the Federal University of Gusau on Friday morning. These criminals, numbering in significant force, also targeted the Sabon-Gida community within Zamfara State’s Bungudu Local Government Area.

During this horrifying event, three student hostels fell victim to the bandits’ attack, resulting in the abduction of all the students within. According to Channels TV, more than 24 students, mostly female were abducted during the invasion of the campus by the bandits

Despite a valiant effort by Nigerian Army troops to engage the bandits in a fierce gun battle, the assailants managed to escape with their captives.

Sources within Sabon-Gida recounted the harrowing ordeal, revealing that the gunmen descended upon the community at approximately 3 am, initiating a hail of indiscriminate gunfire.

They entered the town around 3 am and started shooting indiscriminately. We have yet to confirm the number of students kidnapped because the bandits entered three hostels and kidnapped all the students there. It is difficult to ascertain their numbers now,” one source explained.

The bandits’ tactics proved cunning, as they divided into two groups. One group absconded with the kidnapped students, while the other engaged the army in a fierce exchange of gunfire, adding an additional layer of complexity to the situation.

Recall in June, students at the University protested against the repeated abductions of their schoolmates in Sabon-Gida and Damba, two villages near the university campus.

The university authority is yet to comment in the abduction
