Armed bandits on Tuesday night invaded Tarah community in Sabon-Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, abducting nine residents and leaving one person injured with a gunshot wound to the arm.

The abduction and killing of residents in northern Nigeria have become a recurring pattern, with victims often freed one day only for attacks to resume shortly after.

Local sources said youths in the community mobilised swiftly to confront the attackers, a response credited with preventing greater casualties.

The incident occurred just days after Tarah’s vigilante members were redeployed to Katsira, leaving the area vulnerable at a critical time.

Security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Bakastine, drew attention to the growing threat in a post on his X handle on Wednesday, stressing that the latest attacks highlight the need for coordinated measures to safeguard at-risk communities.

The incident has renewed fears over persistent mass abductions and killings across northern states, even as security agencies continue operations aimed at restoring stability.
