Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny made history at the Super Bowl on Sunday by becoming the first halftime show headliner to perform entirely in Spanishโ€”and to host a wedding during the show.

The artist, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martรญnez Ocasio, performed an eight-song set from his latest album on a Puerto Rican-inspired stage at Leviโ€™s Stadium in California.

The performance included a surprise appearance by Lady Gaga, who joined him for a reggaeton version of her duet with Bruno Mars, โ€œDie With A Smile.โ€ Celebrities like Cardi B, Pedro Pascal, and Ricky Martin also made cameos.

About five minutes into the show, a couple was married on stage in a real ceremony. Bad Bunnyโ€™s representative confirmed the marriage was genuine, with the rapper serving as a witness and signing the certificate.

However, the performance drew sharp criticism from U.S. President Donald Trump, who posted on Truth Social during the game.

โ€œThe halftime show was absolutely terrible, one of the worst, EVER!โ€ Trump wrote. โ€œNobody understands a word this guy is saying, and the dancing is disgusting, especially for young children that are watching from throughout the U.S.A., and all over the World.โ€

He called the show โ€œan affront to the Greatness of Americaโ€ and urged the NFL to replace its โ€œridiculous new Kickoff Rule.โ€

The show also included a subtle political statement. Bad Bunny performed his 2022 track โ€œEl Apagonโ€ on power poles that explodedโ€”a reference to Puerto Ricoโ€™s blackouts and failing power grid after Hurricane Maria.

The Seattle Seahawks won the game, beating the New England Patriots 29โ€“13 to claim their second Super Bowl title.
