Annie Idibia: AY warns ‘online in-laws’ against comments that could trigger ‘suicide’

Popular comedian AY Makun has raised concerns about the harmful effects of social media commentary as he weighs in on 2baba and Annie Idibia’s divorce.

In a passionate post on X, AY defended those going through marital challenges.

“Instead of casting blame in broken marriages that you know nothing about, why not focus on the reasons why the institution itself is under attack. No one goes in with a plan to fail. It’s troubling to see online inlaws and blogs revel in sensationalism, often at the expense of those hurting. Real lives are involved—let’s choose empathy over drama and contents. Some of you will never rest until you lead a fellow human to suicide.”

The situation began when 2Baba posted a video on Instagram announcing their separation.

“Hello to my beautiful people of all federations. Well, this thing I have to say is short but also long. I and Annie Macaulay have been separated for a while now and currently filing for divorce.

“I would grant a press release soon to say my story. Not because it is anyone’s right to know about my personal life but because I love my people, and I need them to know my innocence or offence. Stay blessed my people. I love you all.”

Hours later, confusion arose when 2Baba claimed his account was hacked, only to reverse this claim in two subsequent videos. “Nobody hacked my accounts. Na me yarn weytin I yarn,” he clarified in Pidgin English.

The announcement, which has sparked a heated debate online, has drawn criticism from celebrities and social media users alike, with many questioning the timing and manner of his disclosure.

AY has also faced significant backlash in 2024 following the alleged split with his wife of 15 Mabel Makun.
