Popular Anambra-based preacher, Prophet Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, also known as Odumeje, has advised young Nigerians from poor families to stop studying certain courses in the university, which he described as “useless.”
In a video that went viral on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, June 2, 2025, the cleric warned that courses like political science, history, sociology, microbiology, and library information science do not guarantee jobs for poor students after graduation.
Odumeje, known for his dramatic preaching style, said it is better to learn a trade than to waste money on such university degrees.
He said, “All these poor people, if your father does not have any connection in politics or government, don’t go to school and begin to study political science, history, microbiology, and sociology. These are useless courses. What are you doing with them?”
He added, “Another one is Library Information Science. It is better for you to go and learn barbing than study that course. We don’t waste our time and money on nonsense now.”
Odumeje explained that education should bring blessings to a family, not suffering. According to him, many young graduates are jobless because they studied courses that do not offer good opportunities.
“For education to be a blessing in your family, let the course you study in school be meaningful. That’s why we have a lot of jobless people,” he said.
He told students to avoid wasting four to five years on degrees that do not lead to real jobs and added, “I am here to guide you as a prophet.”
Odumeje has been known for making bold and unusual statements. Not long ago, he declared his interest in becoming Nigeria’s president in 2027.
In a viral sermon video, he said, “We need a young leader in this country, and I think I am coming out. We need a young leader as a president, a digital leader, not old cargoes. Am I sure you hear me? I think I will come out, I will come out for president.”
Although he did not say which political party he would join, Odumeje said he wants to lead Nigeria into modern development.
“Are you ready for me? Odumeje for president? Are you ready for me? Because I know what you need. I know what you want. I want to construct a main road called Citadel for you. I want to give you a modern life, a digital life,” he told his church members.
His comments have stirred reactions on social media, with many Nigerians debating his views on education and politics.
