The Joint Action Congress, representing workers of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, has called for the confirmation of Captain Chris Najomo as the substantive Director-General of the NCAA. Najomo currently serves in an acting capacity.

JAC comprises four key unions: Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, National Union of Air Transport Employees, Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals, and the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers.

In a statement signed by union leaders Jakada Anthony, Remi Aderinkomi, Ben Godwin, and Diepreye Saburugha, the unions praised Najomo’s leadership, highlighting his achievements during his 10 months in office.

The unions stated, “There is a new culture of dignity and value for the workforce birthed in the NCAA under the current management. This aligns perfectly with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and is now driving several achievements across the sector.”

The unions also commended aviation stakeholders who have applauded Najomo’s efforts to reposition the industry.

“JAC affirms that the evaluation of Capt. Chris Najomo’s performance, in line with President Tinubu’s policy coordination and delivery, can best be measured by feedback from aviation industry stakeholders, most of whom have expressed plaudits for the current leadership at NCAA,” the statement read.

The unions emphasized the technical nature of the aviation industry, noting that it requires firm and professional regulatory leadership. They cautioned against politicizing such a critical role.

“Nigeria has found a formula that works in its civil aviation regulatory leadership,” the unions said. “This should be embraced and built upon to continue positioning the industry as a hub of civil aviation in Africa.”

JAC called on President Tinubu and Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, to confirm Najomo as NCAA’s substantive Director-General.

“JAC appeals to President Tinubu and the Minister to expedite the confirmation of Capt. Najomo to ensure the continuity of his impactful leadership,” the unions added.
