The average price of petrol in Nigeria dropped to ₦1,024.99 per litre in July 2025, according to the latest data from the National Bureau of Statistics released on Thursday.
The report, titled “Premium Motor Spirit (Petrol) Price Watch,” showed that the price decreased by 1.22 percent from the ₦1,037.66 recorded in June 2025. However, compared to July 2024, the average price still rose by 33.02 percent, from ₦770.54 per litre.
NBS noted that Jigawa State recorded the highest petrol price in July at ₦1,107.52 per litre. Lagos and Sokoto followed closely at ₦1,100.29 and ₦1,100.00 respectively. Zamfara, Yobe, and Kogi recorded the lowest average prices at ₦884.63, ₦950.60, and ₦986.67.
“The North-West zone had the highest average retail price of ₦1,035.85, while the North-East zone recorded the lowest average retail price at ₦1,017.65,” the report stated.
The data highlights the continued price differences across states despite efforts to stabilise the downstream petroleum sector.
In addition, headline inflation eased slightly to 21.88 percent in July from 22.22 percent in June. NBS explained that the rate of increase in average price levels in July was still higher compared to the previous month on a month-to-month basis.
“The percentage change in the average CPI for the twelve months ending July 2025 over the average for the previous twelve months was 25.65 percent, which shows a drop compared to 30.76 percent recorded in July 2024,” the agency added.
