The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed that an autopsy conducted on the body of 22-year-old Afrofuji singer Afeez Adesina, popularly known as Destiny Boy, revealed harmful levels of tramadol and methamphetamine as the cause of his death, Daily Trust reports.

The singer died on January 17, 2026, under circumstances that sparked widespread speculation and social media outrage. Videos circulating after his death showed his body being transported to a mortuary, triggering rumours about what may have led to his passing.

The Ogun State Police Command’s Homicide Section at the State Criminal Investigation Department conducted the autopsy. According to the report, the cause of death was aspiration pneumonitis resulting from the ingestion of toxic substances, including tramadol and methamphetamine.

DSP Babaseyi Oluseyi, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed that one suspect has been arrested in connection with the case, and investigations are ongoing.

Following his death, an unidentified associate had said in a video that the singer had been battling a private health challenge. “Destiny was nursing a health issue in his body before he died. We tried for him, but he didn’t make it,” the man said.

His mother, Saida, also stated in an online video that the family had sought both medical and traditional treatment for a long-term illness that caused him to have seizures.

Destiny Boy began gaining prominence in 2019 with his Fuji cover of Davido’s hit song “If.” He later released covers of tracks by Tekno, 2Baba, 9ice, and Small Doctor, as well as original songs including “Lamba,” “One Transaction,” “Gbese,” “Billion Dollar,” “Mio Gbonkankan,” and “Lowkey.”

The singer and his partner, Iremide, welcomed their first child together in November 2024.
