A devastating road accident occurred along the Kano-Maiduguri Express Road in Kano State, resulting in the loss of eleven lives and leaving sixteen others injured, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps.

A statement released by the Public Education Officer of the Kano Sector of the FRSC, A.A. Labaran, confirmed the tragic incident. Labaran reported that the accident involved two vehicles: a Toyota hummer bus with registration number KTG 190 XB and a Hijet mini p/up with registration number KTG 501 YG.

Preliminary investigations suggested that the accident was caused by overspeeding, leading to a loss of control and subsequent fire outbreak. Labaran emphasized the importance of adhering to road safety rules and regulations to prevent such tragedies in the future.

In response to the accident, the injured victims were promptly transported to Gaya General Hospital for urgent medical attention, while those who lost their lives were respectfully laid to rest in a mass burial ceremony.

Labaran extended condolences to the families of the deceased and urged drivers to avoid traffic offenses such as overspeeding and overloading of vehicles.

He also encouraged the installation of speed-limiting devices on vehicles to prevent accidents caused by speed limit violations.

“The FRSC RS1.2 Kano Sector Command remains committed to ensuring the safety of road users and will continue to intensify efforts in enforcing traffic regulations to prevent similar incidents in the future,” Labaran concluded.
