Attahiru: Late pilot’s wife, another relative slump at burial ceremony
A woman identified as the wife of a pilot who was involved in the military plane crash that claimed 11 lives at the Kaduna International Airport on Friday slumped today as the victims were being committed to mother earth.
WUZUPNIGERIA reported that the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen Ibrahim Attahiru and 10 other officers were laid to rest at the military cemetery in Abuja amidst tears in the presence of family, friends and colleagues.
However, midway through the burial ceremony today, one of the wives of the late officers slumped as the Chief of Defense Staff was giving his speech under the tent where Defense and Police Officers Wives Association (DEPOWA), Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association and Nigerian Air Force Officers’ Wives Association (NAFOWA) were seated.
The Nation reported that one of the family members also fainted while the next of kin to the officers were being presented with the Nigerian flag in honour of their fallen heroes.
The development prompted medical personnel at the location to move swiftly to the scene where the late CoAS Attahiru and other victims were buried.
Midway through the funeral programme, DEPOWA National President, Victoria Irabor gave an emotional speech at the ceremony.
It partly read “You can see the women are devastated, every woman feels the same way. It could have been any woman’s husband that is why you see all of us turned out in our uniforms to support our dear sister, the National President of NAOWA, Mrs Fati Attahiru and the other women.
“We share in their grief but we know that the death of their husbands will not be in vain. Today, they are the heroes of Nigeria and we are proud of them and we take solace in the fact that they made so much sacrifice for the nation, just for the peace and security of Nigeria. Today Nigeria is experiencing insecurity but our hope and belief are that their death is not in vain. By this death indeed, God will restore peace and security to Nigeria,” she said.
