Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Friday led a delegation of high-profile politicians to pay a courtesy visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari at his residence in Daura, Katsina State.

According to Atiku, the purpose of the visit was solely to extend Sallah greetings and not connected to any political maneuvering.

The meeting has, however, drawn the attention of political analysts, especially with the 2027 general elections approaching.

Addressing journalists after the visit, Atiku dismissed any speculation linking the meeting to ongoing discussions about a potential opposition coalition.

“We came here on a courtesy and Sallah greetings visit to President Muhammadu Buhari,” Atiku said.

Among the delegation were former governors Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State and Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, along with other influential political figures.

Atiku also explained the reason for the timing of the visit, stating that he had responsibilities in his home state during the Eid celebrations.
“I couldn’t visit earlier because I was standing in for the Lamido of Adamawa, HRH Dr. Muhammadu Musdafa, in my hometown,” he explained.

While some observers have interpreted the visit as a strategic move ahead of the 2027 elections, Atiku reiterated that it was purely a gesture of goodwill.
“This visit has nothing to do with any political coalition or 2027. It’s about respect and goodwill during the Eid celebrations,” he added.
