Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, in his New Year message, called on the federal government to address the economic challenges faced by Nigerians in 2024.
In a statement released on Sunday, Atiku expressed gratitude to God but acknowledged the difficulties experienced in 2023, emphasizing the rising costs of essential items, economic dysfunction, and deteriorating national and community security.
Critiquing the government’s policy approaches, Atiku remarked, “Certainly, many families and businesses already know the intensity of the trying times that we are currently going through – though we could have taken a completely different pathway, had the government been smarter.” He urged the government to adopt a well-thought vision for national planning that prioritizes the common people of Nigeria.
Emphasizing the newness of the year, Atiku urged the government to outline clear policy projections and move away from uncertain approaches.
“The Year 2024 is still new on its canvas, and so there is ample time for the current government to champion a pathway to addressing the acute hardship that Nigerians are going through,” he continued.
