Prominent figures of the African Democratic Congress, Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, have taken part in the ongoing Save Democracy Protest in Abuja.
The two politicians were seen at the Maitama Roundabout in the Federal Capital Territory, where demonstrators gathered.
Prior to the event, Obi had announced the protest on his đ handle on Wednesday, urging citizens to stand up in protection of Nigeriaâs democratic system. He noted that the demonstration was organised by members and leaders of the ADC in collaboration with other concerned Nigerians who view recent developments as threats to democratic governance.
He further stressed that the opposition coalition rejects any move toward a one-party system, insisting that democratic principles must be preserved. âWe, members and leaders of the ADC and other well-meaning Nigerians, lovers of democracy, are saying that our democracy must not be killed.
âWe say no to a one-party system, and for that reason, today we are calling on Nigerians who believe in unity, peace and the security of our country to join us as we defend democracy in our land,â Obi stated.
Meanwhile, a flyer circulating online ahead of the protest reads: âSAVE DEMOCRACY PROTEST! *âDefend our freedom, protect our vote! Save our democracy. You are welcome, Maitama roundabout, Abuja. Your vote matters.â
