Atiku mourns victims of air force jet crash

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has mourned the demise of the victims of the military aircraft King Air 350 which crashed in Abuja on Sunday.

The Nigerian Air Force confirmed that all seven passengers on board lost their lives to the tragic accident as a result of an engine failure to the jet.

In a post on his verified Twitter handle, the former People’s Democratic Party’s presidential candidate consoled with the family of the deceased and the Nigerian Air Force.

His tweet read: “I have just learnt of the crash of a military aircraft near Abuja. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of those onboard the ill-fated flight.

While investigations are ongoing to ascertain the cause(s) of the crash, I wish to express my deepest condolences to the affected families and the Nigerian military, particularly the Nigerian Air force.”

Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola – NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, confirmed the tragic accident on Sunday.

He said, “This is to confirm that a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Beechcraft KingAir B350i aircraft crashed while returning to the Abuja Airport after reporting engine failure enroute Minna. First responders are at the scene. Sadly, all 7 personnel on board died in the crash.”

Speaking further Daramola revealed that Chief of the Air Staff – Air Vice Marshal IO Amao, has ordered an investigation of the incident.

He sent condolences to the family of the deceased, urging Nigerians to remain calm and await the outcome of the investigation.

“The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), @CAS_IOAmao, has ordered an immediate investigation into the incident. While urging the general public to remain calm & await the outcome of investigation, the CAS, on behalf of all NAF personnel, commiserates with the families of the deceased,” Daramola concluded.
