Atiku, El-Rufai meet in Kaduna, accuse Tinubu government of dictatorship

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, held a closed-door meeting in Kaduna on Saturday evening, in what is being described as a strategic political alignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Following the meeting, Atiku disclosed in a statement that the visit was a show of solidarity with El-Rufai, who was recently attacked by thugs allegedly linked to the ruling All Progressives Congress during the launch of the African Democratic Congress in Kaduna.

Atiku condemned the incident and criticised the APC-led government under President Bola Tinubu, describing it as the “greatest risk to democracy since the return of civilian rule.” He further alleged that the current administration had “turned into a full-blown dictatorship.”

He added that the meeting produced a resolution to harmonise political efforts toward “rescuing Nigeria” through the ADC, which he referred to as a “viable alternative platform.”

In a video clip released after the meeting, El-Rufai echoed Atiku’s sentiments, claiming that the Tinubu administration was running what he described as a dictatorship worse than military rule.

He called on Nigerians to unite and end the president’s tenure in 2027.

Both Atiku and El-Rufai are among a growing number of opposition figures aligning with the ADC, as political manoeuvring intensifies ahead of the next general elections.
