Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned the killing of a housewife and her six children in Kano State, describing the attack as cruel and unacceptable.

The victims were killed at Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters in the Kano metropolis, an incident that has sparked widespread outrage across the country.

In a statement released on Sunday, Atiku said he was deeply saddened by the tragedy and extended his condolences to the bereaved family and residents of the community.

“I am heartbroken by the gruesome killing of a mother and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi, Kano. This senseless violence against innocent Nigerians is unacceptable. My thoughts and prayers are with the grieving family and community,” he said.

The former vice president also raised concerns over the country’s security situation, questioning whether official directives to security agencies were being effectively carried out.

“It is either the so-called marching orders to the security agencies are not being actioned or it is merely political talk,” Atiku stated.

He urged security agencies to act swiftly and decisively to ensure those responsible are arrested and prosecuted.

“Security agencies are charged to swiftly bring the perpetrators to justice and for decisive actions to protect every Nigerian from such brutality,” he added.

Atiku further called for urgent steps to end recurring violence in the country, stressing the need for better protection of lives and property.

“We must end the culture of violence and ensure safety for all,” he said.

The condemnation comes as the Kano State Police Command confirmed the arrest of three principal suspects linked to the killing of the woman and her children.

The police said the arrests followed intelligence-led and coordinated operations carried out between the night of January 17 and the early hours of Sunday, January 18, 2026.

The killings have continued to draw strong reactions from political leaders and civil society groups, with renewed calls for improved security, accountability and justice for the victims.
