Atalanta sack coach after Sassuolo loss

Atalanta have sacked head coach Ivan Juric after a disappointing start to the 2025–26 Serie A season.

The decision came a day after the club suffered a 3–0 home defeat to newly promoted Sassuolo on Sunday, leaving them 13th in the league table with just two wins from 11 matches.

Juric, who replaced long-serving manager Gian Piero Gasperini in the summer, managed only six points in Atalanta’s last eight games, drawing six and losing two.

“Atalanta BC announces that Ivan Juric has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the first team, along with his closest staff members. The club thanks them for their efforts and wishes them all the best for the future,” the club said in a Monday statement.

Juric’s position was already under review, as reports had revealed that the board gave him two matches — against Marseille in the Champions League and Sassuolo in Serie A — to save his job.

Although Atalanta won against Marseille, Juric drew criticism after a heated touchline argument with Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman. The loss to Sassuolo sealed his fate.

Italian media reports that former Monza and Fiorentina boss Raffaele Palladino is likely to take over as the new head coach.
