A lady has taken to the microblogging platform, Twitter, to narrate her tragic rape experience on her 11th birthday.
The Twitter user, @_LADEmie, on Sunday, explained that as a young child she used to hawk Kunu in the barracks, where she lived with her family.
According to her, the kunu – a popular drink made from millet or sorghum and consumed throughout Nigeria – and her soldier father’s meagre salary was her family’s means of livelihood.
On that fateful day, while hawking the drink, she was hailed by her father’s superior who invited her into his office on the pretence that he wanted to patronise her.
However, on entering the office the man raped and warned her not to disclosed the incident to anyone or he would sack her father.
Recounting the experience, @_LADEmie said she still relived the incident like it happened just yesterday despite it being 23 years.
She tweeted,
“I was raped by my father’s superior In the military at my 11th birthday. He threatened to sack my dad if I told anyone. He could have killed me. I was 11, while I was hawking kunu to feed my family. He promised to buy my goods and I entered his office. We were in the barracks.
“If I didn’t sell Kunu, we wouldn’t eat. My dad’s salary was nothing. It’s been 23 years, but it still feels like yesterday”
