The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, Zone C, has called on its members to fully comply with the two-week strike scheduled to begin on Monday.

The strike is in response to unresolved issues with the Federal Government affecting the polytechnic sector.

Zonal Coordinator of ASUP, Adekunle Masopa, made the announcement during a media briefing at Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) in Lagos on Friday. He stressed the importance of solidarity among members and directed chapter executives to enforce compliance.

Masopa explained that the strike would last until December 16, after which members would resume work if their demands are addressed.

He highlighted key grievances, including the delayed implementation of the minimum wage, CONTISS 15 migration, and stalled promotion exercises. Other demands include Payment of promotion benefits and adequate staffing in polytechnics. Ending the appointment of principal officers in acting capacity for periods exceeding institutional regulations and review of the “Schemes of Service for Polytechnics” by the National Board for Technical Education.

Masopa also mentioned the unresolved renegotiation of the ASUP/FG 2010 agreement and unpaid promotion arrears in federal polytechnics.

Additionally, he accused the government of violating the Federal Polytechnics Act in the appointment of a new rector at Federal Polytechnic, Nekede. “There are clear cases of irregularities in applying the Federal Polytechnic Act, Edicts, and other governance instruments,” he said.

ASUP’s 111th National Executive Council meeting had earlier issued a 15-day ultimatum to the government, demanding action on these issues. “If the government does not address our concerns, we have no choice but to withdraw our services nationwide,” Masopa added.
