Nigerian singer Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, emerged victorious as the Best African Artist of the Year at the 2024 MOBO Awards held in Sheffield, United Kingdom, on Wednesday night.
The ‘Mr. Money’ crooner secured the prestigious award, surpassing competition from compatriots such as Davido, Ayra Starr, Rema, as well as Grammy-winning South African sensation, Tyla.
Expressing his joy, Asake now joins the esteemed list of Nigerians who have previously claimed the title of Best African Act at the MOBO Awards, including 2Baba, D’Banj, Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy.
In another win for Nigeria, Afro-gospel singer Limoblaze was honored with the Best Gospel Act award at the same ceremony, adding to the night’s celebration of Nigerian talent.
British-Nigerian rapper Tunde made a mark by clinching the Best New Artist award, marking a significant achievement in his budding career.
British rapper Central Cee emerged as one of the night’s big winners, securing two awards: Best Male Act and Song of the Year for ‘Sprinter,’ a collaboration with British-Nigerian rapper Dave.
The Best International Act award saw a joint victory, with global sensations Drake and 21 Savage sharing the honors.
Soul II Soul received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing their impactful musical journey.
