Arsenal to terminate Ozil’s contract ahead of Fenerbache move
Mesut Ozil and Arsenal’s estranged relationship could end sooner than expected as reports revealed that the Gunners will terminate his contract on Monday.
The German international who earns a whopping £350,000 per week joined the Gunners in 2013 from Real Madrid was expected to move on an initial loan deal to the Fenerbache till the end of the season before completing a permanent deal worth €5m a year.
However, Arsenal are reported to have changed their stance and are ready to end the over seven-year relationship with Ozil who did not make Mikel Arteta’s squad this season.
Talksports revealed that Ozil was due to collect more than £7million in wages before his £350,000-a-week deal expires in June – and with the German wanting every penny, Arsenal have finally agreed to a pay-off so Ozil can leave as a free agent this month.
Popular sports journalist, Fabrizio Romano also tweeted that “The agreement with #AFC to terminate his contract will be completed in the coming hours”.
He added that “Özil will sign a long-term contract with Fenerbahçe, his priority despite DC United bid” for the former Madrid star.
In a subsequent tweet, he said, “Mesut Özil is expected to sign his contract as new Fenerbahçe player on Monday. Arsenal are now planning to sell also Papastathopoulos in the coming days, then they’ll work on new signings. Emi Buendia: contacts with his agent but no official bid from #AFC, as of today.”
