Arsenal thrashed Sheffield United 5-0 on Saturday to move back within two points of Premier League leaders Tottenham, while Brentford beat Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge for a historic third season in a row.

Eddie Nketiah led the way for Arsenal with a sensational hat-trick, converting the opener coolly from Declan Rice’s cross in the first half then capitalising on a Wes Foderingham error to slam home a close-range second soon after the break.

The 24-year-old saved his best until last, however, sealing his treble with a stunning long-range effort driven into the top corner after collecting Emile Smith Rowe’s pass 25 yards from goal.

Fabio Vieira won and converted a late penalty and Takehiro Tomiyasu poked home following a corner in stoppage time to complete the rout for Arsenal, who remain unbeaten this season.

At Stamford Bridge, Brentford produced a strong defensive performance to keep Chelsea at bay and took the lead on 58 minutes when Ethan Pinnock nodded in Bryan Mbeumo’s right-wing cross.

Chelsea huffed and puffed but rarely looked like rescuing a draw and Mbeumo rolled in a second deep into stoppage time to clinch the points, lifting Brentford above Chelsea into 10th place in the table.
