Arsenal suffer Champions League setback after 2-1 defeat to Brighton

Arsenal suffered a setback in their quest for Champions League qualification after losing 2-1 to Brighton at the Emirates Stadium.
Mike Arteta’s side were hoping to edge fourth-placed Tottenham who face Aston Villa later today with a victory against the Seagulls but fell behind before the half-hour mark.
Enock Mwepu teed up Leandro Trossard for the opener as Graham Potter’s men ended the first half the better side.
Mwepu doubled the lead for Graham Potter’s side in the 66th minute to leave the home side with a mountain to climb.
Martin Ødegaard scored a deflected stunner one minute to the end of regular time to begin a resurgence for the Gunners.
But his effort appeared too little too late for Arteta’s side who were unable to seal a comeback despite an additional six minutes.
Arsenal have now lost consecutive home league games, having lost just two of their previous 16 at the Emirates Stadium (W12 D2).
The defeat hands Tottenham a chance to go three points clear of their London rivals when they face Steven Gerrard’s side at Villa Park.
