Arsenal football legend, Ian Wright, on Tuesday fought back the tears when he revisited his horrible past experience.

He disclosed how his mother used to tell him to his face that she wished she had terminated him as a child.

Wright made the revelation in a new BBC documentary titled ‘In Home Truths’ as he paid a scheduled visit to the home where he and his brothers were abused by his mother and stepfather.

Wright told Radio Times: “The wall was horrible. It was bloody freezing cold, and at the time I was very asthmatic.

“The bed was up against the wall, so I was lying right next to it, and my ears were being covered. It was a horrible, claustrophobic thing. I don’t like thinking about it.”

Daily Mail reported that Wright and his brothers, Nicky and Morris, were raised by their mum, Nesta, and stepfather in a flat on the Honour Oak Estate in Lewisham, South London after their biological father left when he was a toddler.

The Arsenal legend said that he would often get into fights to vent his aggression as a teen whenever his stepfather walked out on the family.

He revealed that his stepfather serially abused his mother, adding that his brother, Maurice, would cover his ears to shield him from the noise of punches.

“My mum often had black eyes. He (my stepfather) would rough you up. Shout at you, intimidate you, swear at you. He was really strong, big and overpowering.”

“It was a terrible experience for me for years, dealing with that; knowing that the person you love the most and want love from most has those feelings.

“Whether she meant what she said or not, nobody should ever have to hear that.”

Wright, who was emotional in the new BBC documentary, set to air on May 6, supported his mother and stepfather and has recently made peace with his mother – who is now in her 90s, despite the abuse.
