The Nigerian Army has cautioned its personnel, particularly those on the frontlines, to steer clear of drug abuse, warning that it poses a significant threat to their lives and operational capacity.

Brigadier General Usman Musa, Director of the Islamic Affairs Directorate of the Nigerian Army, issued the warning during the Nigerian Army Annual Training Week and Conference held in Damaturu, Yobe State.

He emphasised that drug abuse among military personnel could have devastating consequences if not urgently addressed.

He said the ongoing conference is expected to enhance the performance of troops across all operational theatres, both domestically and internationally.

According to him, “Maintaining a drug-free society will help the Nigerian Army in recruiting a well-motivated and combat-ready force that can effectively discharge its constitutional responsibilities within a joint and multi-agency environment.”

Also speaking at the event, the Deputy Governor of Yobe State, Idi Barde Gubana, reiterated the state government’s commitment to supporting the Nigerian Army in its efforts to maintain peace and security.
