Army Sgt wins gold at world military wrestling championship

Corporal Reuben Hannah, representing the Armed Forces of Nigeria, has secured a Gold Medal in the women’s 76kg event at the 36th World Military Wrestling Championship in Azerbaijan.

The announcement was made by the Army Headquarters through an official post on its social media handle on Saturday.

Corporal Hannah expressed her gratitude, specifically thanking the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, and other service chiefs for their support in ensuring Nigerian Military wrestlers participated in the prestigious championship.

In her statement, Corporal Hannah conveyed her appreciation for the meticulous preparations undertaken for the tournament, attributing the success to the provision of all necessary logistics that contributed to the team’s excellence.

“I want to thank the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, and other service chiefs for ensuring wrestlers in the Nigerian Military attended the 36th World Military Wrestling Championship. The preparations for the tournament were top-notch because we were provided with all the necessary logistics to excel,” she stated.

This victory follows Corporal Hannah’s previous accomplishments, including winning the silver medal in the women’s 76kg event at both the 2022 and 2023 African Wrestling Championships.
