Army seizes cannabis worth N4.9m in Yobe

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has received 98 parcels of cannabis sativa valued N4.9 million from the North-East Joint Task Force in Damaturu, Yobe State.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, this was revealed by the Sector Commander, Major General Koko Isoni, while handing over the seized substances to the Agency on Monday in Damaturu.

The Commander, represented by Brigadier General Umar Mu’azu, stated that the chemicals were captured on October 7, 2022 by troops of the 159 Battalion in the state’s Geidam Local Government Area.

“It was abandoned by the courier including the vehicle conveying the consignment when he saw the patrol team,” he said.

The State Commandant of the Agency, Aliyu Yahaya, praised the army for the generosity in his speech and mentioned that each parcel of marijuana costs N50,000.

Yahaya, who was represented by Deputy State Commandant Ogar Peter, praised the cooperation between the state’s security organizations.

“We are pleased to receive this exhibit. The gesture demonstrates the synergy that exists between the security agencies in the state,” he said, adding the Nigerian Army has been committed to curve drug peddling in the state.
