A Nigerian Army Major, M. S. Isma’il, has been shot dead by a gang of armed robbers in Jigawa State on Sunday.
The state police confirmed the report in a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Lawan Shisu Adam, on Wednesday, adding that a Private was also killed during the attack.
According to the PPRO, the incident occurred at Dumdubus village in Dutse Local Government Area of the state about 9 pm on Sunday, while the two officers were traveling from Maiduguri, Borno State to Kaduna.
Adam revealed that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
“Information was received about 2100hrs on July 4 that the road from Maiduguri to Kano expressway was blocked by armed robbers at Dumdubus village, Fanisau Division Dutse LGA.
“Police patrol team moved to the scene, which is about 40 meters after Dumdubus village. Prior to the arrival of the police patrol team, the robbers had escaped into the bush.
“One PTE Harisu Aliyu was wounded in his neck and shoulder, while Major M. S. Isma’il was shot dead.
“Both were army officers, travelling from Maiduguri to Kaduna, with vehicle No. BWR 105 BX.
“Meanwhile, efforts are in progress toward apprehending the fleeing suspects.”
