Troops of the Nigerian Army have neutralised Danbokklo, a notorious bandit kingpin, during a fierce gunfight in Sokoto State.

Military officials confirmed that the operation occurred on Monday, following an intelligence-driven offensive targeting criminal hideouts in the area.

Danbokklo, infamous for masterminding a series of deadly attacks and kidnappings across the northwestern region, was reportedly killed after resisting arrest.

“This is a significant breakthrough for us,” a senior military officer involved in the mission said.

“Danbokklo had long been on our watchlist for crimes ranging from armed robbery to mass abductions. He met his end in a confrontation with our gallant troops.”

The source explained that the operation was part of ongoing clearance missions aimed at removing criminal elements terrorizing Sokoto and neighboring states. Weapons, ammunition, and motorcycles believed to have been used in raids were recovered at the site.

Residents in the area welcomed the news, describing Danbokklo’s death as “long overdue.”

“For years, we lived in fear,” a local community leader, who preferred to remain anonymous, told reporters. “We thank the military for taking action. We hope this will restore peace to our villages.”

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its dedication to combating banditry and restoring stability to the region.

“We will not relent until every criminal element is brought to justice,” said a military spokesperson. “The safety and security of law-abiding citizens remain our top priority.”

The killing of Danbokklo marks a key milestone in the Nigerian Army’s ongoing efforts to end banditry in the northwest.
