Army eliminates three terrorists in Sambisa forest

Troops from the Nigerian Army successfully carried out a raid on a terrorist camp in the Arra area of Sambisa Forest in Borno State on Friday, resulting in the elimination of three terrorists, including a suicide bomber.

The forest, initially designated as a game reserve by the colonial government, has become a stronghold for both Boko Haram and Islamic State for West Africa Province terrorists.

The Director of Army Public Relations, Major-General Onyema Nwachukwu, confirmed the operation, stating, “During the operation, the troops gallantly neutralised three terrorists, including a suicide bomber, and destroyed their enclave in the area. After a thorough search, troops recovered two AK-47 Rifles and a suicide vest.”

In a separate operation in the Buluwa Area of Kukawa Local Government Area in Borno State, troops conducted a clearance operation, resulting in the destruction of another terrorists’ camp. One terrorist was killed during this encounter, and the troops recovered one AK-47 Rifle, 14 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, a bicycle, foodstuff, a grinding machine, and other items.

Major-General Onyema emphasized the Nigerian Army’s commitment to eradicating terrorism and insurgency in the region, pledging to continue operations to ensure the safety and security of the populace.

The Defence Headquarters also reassured the public, stating that troops deployed nationwide are prepared to address any threats, especially with the commencement of the Ramadan period.
