Armed Youth kills scores over Akwa Ibom/Cross River boundary attacks
Armed youths from Odukpani Local Government Area in Cross River State have killed about 50 persons when they invaded Akpan Mfrekim in Akan Obio, a fishing settlement of Uruan LGA, Akwa Ibom State.
The Uruan LGA Chairman, Dr Edwin Okon, who said this on Monday, lamented the ordeal of his people in the hands of their Cross River neighbours.
He noted that the protracted crises have forced the remaining people to flee and seek refuge elsewhere.
He said that farming and fishing, which were the major sources of livelihood of his people, had been affected by the invasion of the communities by the Cross River armed youths.
Okon called for the cooperation of security agencies to bolster security within the affected communities by providing surveillance gunboats and other security infrastructure in the affected communities.
The Cross River State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Donald Awunah, said, “Someone called me that some hoodlums were attacking fishing port but no details as to where the place is located.”
