Armed military personnel on Thursday stormed the headquarters of Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company and its Oshodi business unit over the alleged disconnection of power supply to the Nigerian Air Force base in Lagos.
The officers, in full military uniform, invaded the company’s premises opposite MITV in Ikeja around 7:40 a.m.
The development reportedly followed a dispute over unpaid electricity bills, which led IKEDC to disconnect the base, leaving it without power.
Sources within the Air Force base revealed that an agreement had initially been reached for a monthly remittance of N60 million to IKEDC in exchange for 10 to 12 hours of daily electricity supply.
However, it remains unclear if there was a breach in the agreement, prompting the disconnection.
Eyewitness reports indicate that staff members and other individuals present at the office were assaulted by the military officers.
Despite an intervention by the Nigeria Police Force, the armed personnel, reportedly led by a female officer, refused to back down.
Efforts to reach both IKEDC and the Nigerian Air Force for an official response are ongoing.
