Armed men suspected to be kidnappers have killed two people and kidnapped five others along the Ifon-Owo Highway in Ondo State.
The incident happened on Friday evening. The driver of a commercial vehicle and a female passenger were shot dead at the scene.
Five other passengers, including a Corps member, were taken away by the gunmen. However, two of the victims managed to escape with varying degrees of wounds.
A local resident revealed that the fully loaded commercial vehicle was coming from Anambra State and heading for Owo and Akure in Ondo State when the gunmen struck.
The Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Police Command, SP Fumilayo Odunlami-Omisanyan, confirmed the incident.
She said that a team of policemen has been deployed to the area and is currently combing the nearby forest to apprehend the kidnappers and rescue the victims.
