Arise News has announced that its late anchor, Somtochukwu Maduagwu, who was killed during an armed robbery in Abuja on September 29, will be buried on Saturday, October 18, in her hometown in Anambra State.
In a video statement released on Saturday, the network said an evening of tributes will hold on Sunday, October 12, at the THISDAY Dome in Abuja. This will be followed by a service of songs on Wednesday, October 15, at Corpus Christi Cathedral, Kaduna Street, Port Harcourt.
Her burial in Anambra will be preceded by a funeral mass at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Agulu.
Maduagwu, 29, was a lawyer, model, and broadcast journalist who worked as an anchor, reporter, and producer at Arise TV. She was killed during a violent robbery at her Katampe home in Abuja, where a security guard, Barnabas Danlami, also lost his life.
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has since arrested 12 suspects linked to the crime.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, preliminary investigations revealed that the gang sourced its weapons from the Niger Republic.
“Preliminary investigations showed that the syndicate procured its firearms — including a locally made AK-47 rifle, a pump-action gun, and a pistol — from an arms dealer operating across the Nigeria–Niger border,” Adeh said.
The police on Saturday paraded the 12 suspects alleged to be involved in the attack.
