The All Progressives Congress pulled a surprise win at the polling unit of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as early results from Amatutu village in Agulu, Anaocha Local Government Area, began to emerge.

At Polling Unit 019, Umudimakasi, where Obi voted, APC scored 73 votes, while the Labour Party got 57. The All Progressives Grand Alliance followed with 38 votes. YPP, ZLP, APM, ADC, and AAC each recorded one vote.

The outcome shocked many observers, given Obi’s strong political base in Agulu and Anaocha, where he has long commanded solid support.

Although the ongoing election is not presidential, the result from Obi’s polling unit drew attention from political watchers who expected the Labour Party to dominate.

Observers noted that APC’s running mate, Senator Uche Ekwunife, hails from the same area, which may have boosted the party’s performance.

At Polling Unit 015, located at Amatutu Village Hall, APC again won with 117 votes, ahead of APGA’s 29 and Labour Party’s 10.

At Polling Unit 023, situated at the Model Primary Health Care Centre, APC maintained its lead with 25 votes, followed by APGA with 8 and Labour Party with 7. YPP and ADC got one vote each.

The pattern of APC’s lead across the three polling units suggests the party is gaining ground in parts of Anaocha, traditionally seen as APGA and Labour Party territory.

Collation of results continues across Anaocha LGA and other parts of Anambra State.
