The All Progressives Congress has cleared all chairmanship seats in Badagry Local Government, Olorunda, and Badagry-West Local Council Development Areas.
The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission announced the results on Saturday night across the local government secretariats in Ajara, Iworo and Kankon.
In Badagry Local Government, APC’s Babatunde Hunpe won with 27,442 votes, defeating the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate who polled 1,814 votes, while the Zenith Labour Party scored 308 votes.
Returning Officer, Akinwunmi Lewis, declared Hunpe winner, saying, “Having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of valid votes, I hereby declare Mr Babatunde Hunpe as the duly elected chairman of Badagry LGA.”
In Olorunda LCDA, Peter Kumayon of APC secured 28,799 votes to emerge chairman. The ZLP candidate got 562 votes, while PDP, which did not present a candidate, had 470 votes.
Returning Officer, Adegboyega Oladiran, said, “Having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of valid votes, I hereby declare Mr Peter Kumayon as the duly elected chairman of Olorunda LCDA.”
In Badagry-West LCDA, APC’s Rauf Ibrahim Yemaren was declared winner after polling 11,538 votes. His closest rival, the ZLP candidate, scored only 73 votes.
Prof Abiodun Okedeyi of the Lagos State University of Education, who served as Returning Officer, said, “Having satisfied the requirements of the law by securing the highest number of valid votes and scoring at least 5 per cent of the votes in all five polling units, Rauf Ibrahim Yemaren is hereby declared the duly elected Chairman of Badagry West LCDA.”
Hunpe, after his win, promised residents he would deliver on his campaign promises and perform better than his predecessor.
Kumayon also thanked the people of Olorunda for their votes, saying, “I will not disappoint you. Your trust in me will not be in vain.”
Yemaren expressed gratitude to Joseph Bamgbose, the Badagry-West Apex leader of APC, and the outgoing chairman, Joseph Gbenu, for their support. He assured residents that he would build on the achievements of the past administration.
