Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation and National Vice Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, Babachir Lawal, has criticised the All Progressives Congress, describing it as a “haven for fugitives” seeking refuge from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Lawal made the remark on Saturday during a meeting of ADC stakeholders in Yola, Adamawa State.

He expressed confidence that both the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party would be defeated in the 2027 general elections.

“It is my belief that more patriots will soon join us even as the PDP self-destructs and the APC becomes a haven for EFCC fugitives,” he said.

The former SGF accused the ruling APC of being “delusional,” alleging that its main political strategy revolved around manipulating election outcomes.

“The APC’s only mantra is to write election results even before elections begin. This is pure delusion because it will not happen. Nigerians will back us to frustrate any criminal manipulation of the 2027 election results,” Lawal declared.

He, however, cautioned that the ADC would not welcome every defecting politician, warning that some might undermine the party’s principles.

“Not everyone will be accepted, lest they corrupt our ideals with attitudes imbibed from their corrupt, undemocratic home parties,” he said.

Lawal described the ADC as a party driven by “visionaries and patriots” who are dissatisfied with the state of governance under the APC and PDP.

“Every patriotic Nigerian now understands that our country has reached the edge of a cliff. The ADC offers Nigerians an opportunity to make a U-turn, recalibrate, and redirect our governance toward a progressive, people-centric system,” he stated.

The former SGF also took a swipe at the Adamawa State government, accusing Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of failing to implement projects that positively affect citizens.

“All we get from over six years of PDP governance is a couple of flyovers carrying scanty traffic despite billions of naira accruing to the state. Sometimes, I wonder whether the money leaves Abuja for Yola at all. Between January and June 2025, the state received N128.81 billion, yet all we have to show are four flyovers and one underpass,” he said.

Lawal expressed optimism that the ADC would produce Adamawa’s next governor, insisting that the party has capable hands to lead the state effectively. He urged members to mobilise citizens to register and collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), noting that “the safety of the ADC is guaranteed only by having voter cards.”

The chairman of the ADC Transitional Committee, Dadiq Dasin, a former member of the House of Representatives, also voiced confidence that the party would secure victory in Adamawa during the next election.

The meeting was attended by several prominent politicians, including former Governor Jibrilla Bindow, former Senator Abdulaziz Nyako, and Senator Ishaku Abbo.
