Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has won his home state, defeating the candidate of the All Progressive Congress by a marginal vote of 10,690 based on collated results presented to Prof. Haruna Andrew the returning officer for Presidential elections in Adamawa.
But the victory by Atiku Abubakar, came under scrutiny from the National Vice Chairman, North East of the APC, Salihu Mustapha, who protested presidential polls results from Michika, which conferred victory for Atiku who had all along trailed in the polls to President Muhammadu Buhari.
Sequel to the protest, the APC had established its lead polling 349,690 against 338,934 polled by Atiku out of officials results collated for 18 councils out of the 21 L.G.A. But results from Michika and Jada reversed the defeat stirring Atiku Abubakar, the candidate of the PDP, who for the first time in results collated so far had been trailing against the President Buhari, in his home state.
Mustapha’s protest was tabled before Pro. Andrew Haruna Returning officer, for the Presidential elections, protesting irregularities with the voting process adopted in Michika, where Atiku recorded his biggest marginal win polling 32,085 against 10,669 scored by Buhari.
Reacting to the petition, by Salihu, who alleged the non-usage of smart card readers in. Some polling units, the Adamawa Resident Electoral Commission, Kassim Gaidam, assured the APC, that the commission will follow internal mechanisms of addressing grievances with the electoral process in addressing the complaints made by the APC.
Atiku from the collated results coming from Michika and his home state where he polled 32,085 and 22,877 votes respectively overtook President Muhammadu Buhari, establishing a marginal led of 12,115 based on tally official results so far collated.
The last results from Toungo, where APC polled 7,149 and PDP polled 5,614 were announced completing the results from 21 local government areas of the state which saw Atiku defeating Buhari by a margin of 10,690 votes.
Professor Haruna Andrew the returning officer is expected to make the official declaration of the votes.
