Human rights activist and public affairs commentator, Mahdi Shehu, has cautioned that the ruling All Progressives Congress may end up like the Peoples Democratic Party, which lost power after 16 years of political dominance.

In a statement released on Monday, October 27, through his verified 𝕏 handle, Shehu drew comparisons between what he described as the PDP’s arrogance during its years in power and the APC’s increasing disregard for democratic institutions and public welfare.

Recalling the PDP’s past overconfidence, Shehu referenced the 2008 statement by the party’s former national chairman, Vincent Ogbulafor, who had boasted that the PDP would rule Nigeria for 60 years.

“But because God is always in charge, Ogbulafor’s PDP was humiliated and disgraced out of power,” Shehu said.

“Today, before the very eyes of the world, PDP is preparing itself for burial with no priest willing to preside over the burial mass,” he added.

The activist warned that the APC was repeating the same mistakes, accusing the ruling party of “taking everything for granted” while “destroying institutions, individuals, cohesion and economy.”

“With the way and manner APC is intimidating people, harassing and blackmailing some, its eventual demise and destruction may not be far away,” he cautioned.

Shehu reinforced his warning with several biblical references, likening the ruling party’s actions to pride before divine authority. Quoting Psalm 37:10, he said, “A little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, they will not be found.”

He also cited 1 Samuel 2:3: “Boast no more so very proudly, do not let arrogance come out of your mouth; for the Lord is a God of knowledge, and with Him actions are weighed.”

The activist further referenced Psalm 31:18 and Isaiah 13:11, which condemn arrogance and wickedness, insisting that divine judgment awaits leaders who misuse power.

Concluding his remarks, Shehu declared: “Like the PDP, APC seems to be in the path of collusion with God by crashing everybody and gate-crashing into the ocean of destruction. Whatever goes up must surely come down.”
