The All Progressives Congress has concluded its ward congresses in Ahoada East and Khana Local Government Areas of Rivers State in preparation for the February 21 by-elections.

The by-elections are being held to fill vacant seats in the Rivers State House of Assembly, with the elected delegates expected to participate in the party’s primaries to select candidates for the affected constituencies.

In Ahoada East State Constituency II, the ward congress was supervised by a seven-member party congress committee led by Smart Iheanazo, while members of the party’s appeal committee were also present.

The committee visited all six wards within the constituency to oversee the exercise and ensure compliance with APC guidelines.

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) monitored the process, led by the Assistant Electoral Officer (Operations) for the local government area, Okogbule Emilia.
At the conclusion of the congress, five delegates emerged from each ward.

A similar exercise took place in Khana Local Government Area, where party officials conducted the delegate selection in accordance with the APC constitution and electoral procedures.

The process in Khana was supervised by the party’s Delegate Congress and Primary Election Committee, headed by Oyoala Peter.

INEC officials also observed the Khana congress, while security agencies, including the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police, were deployed to ensure security.

As in Ahoada East, five delegates were elected from each ward in Khana.

Party officials expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the congresses, describing the exercise as peaceful and orderly.
