The All Progressives Congress has emerged victorious in 20 out of the 23 local government areas in the just-concluded council elections held on Saturday across Rivers State.
The results were officially announced by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission in Port Harcourt on Sunday.
The chairmanship and councillorship seats won by the APC were secured by candidates widely identified as allies of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Among the LGAs claimed by the APC are Ahoada East with 84,125 votes; Akuku Toru with 63,593 votes; Andoni with 126,181 votes; Asari Toru with 56,383 votes; Bonny with 13,543 votes; Degema with 61,536 votes; and Etche, where the APC polled 100,649 votes.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party secured victories in two LGAs: Obio/Akpor, where it garnered 328,888 votes, and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni (Onelga), which recorded 51,051 votes in favour of the party.
