Anambra State police have freed seven people, including a Catholic priest, who were arrested by security agents a few days ago for their involvement in the Biafra agitation.
The detainees were allegedly members of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, led by Chief Raph Uwazuruike.
The released persons are Rev. Fr. Samuel Aniebonem, 87-year-old Chief Sylvester Dinyelu, and five others.
Their release sparked joy in Awka and Onitsha on Sunday.
Mazi Chris Mocha, the Director of Information and Senior Special Adviser to BIM-MASSOB on Media and Publicity, confirmed their release in a statement issued to journalists in Awka.
Mocha said, “The oppressed peoples have the right to demand independence, and the peaceful approach is the only solution for achieving self-determination for Biafra.”
He encouraged their members to follow Uwazuruike’s example, which he said was the only way to realize the state of Biafra.
