The Anambra State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has publicly appealed to the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate and former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, to return to the PDP.
The appeal was made following an enlarged meeting of the State Executive Committee held in Awka on Thursday, convened to assess the state of the party and deliberate on its political direction.
In a communique signed by the State Chairman, Chidi Chidebe, the party expressed concerns over forming alliances with groups that do not share similar ideologies, suggesting such coalitions may not deliver meaningful results.
“The committee extends an open invitation to all aggrieved and former members of the PDP in Anambra, particularly our revered former governor, Mr Peter Obi, to return home and reunite with the now rejuvenated and restructured PDP. We will gladly welcome our brothers and sisters back to join us in the collective quest for a better Nigeria,” he said.
Peter Obi had left the PDP in the buildup to the 2023 general elections, citing internal challenges and a lack of opportunity to actualize his presidential ambition within the party.
During the meeting, Chidebe also called on voters in Anambra to rally behind the party’s candidates in the forthcoming election.
He urged support for Mr. Jude Ezenwafor and his running mate, Mr. Francis Okeke, emphasizing the need for the Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure a fair, transparent, and impartial process.
Additionally, the party announced the nomination of Chief Clems Ezike to fill the vacant position of National Ex-Officio representing Anambra. Chidebe appealed to the Southeast Zonal Executive Committee, led by Chief Ali Odefa, to acknowledge the nomination and forward it to the PDP national secretariat for ratification.
