The Anambra State Government has dismissed several operatives of the Udo Ga Chi vigilante group following their assault on a female National Youth Service Corps member, Jennifer Edema Elohor.

The incident, captured in a viral video, showed the security operatives pointing pump-action rifles and physically assaulting the corps member.

Confirming the action, Prince Emeakayi, Special Adviser on Homeland Security to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, denounced the conduct of the dismissed operatives, describing it as unpatriotic and contrary to the objectives of the Agunaechemba security unit under which the group operates.

The government assured the public that the affected operatives would be handed over for prosecution upon request by the police.

It also revealed ongoing efforts in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force to retrain vigilante personnel in proper security management.

As part of the reforms, all vigilante operatives in the state will now be required to wear uniforms bearing identification numbers for easy monitoring and accountability.
